CoachUp’s Pump-Up Playlist #2
About a month ago, we asked some of our most esteemed coaches and employees to weigh in on their favorite pump-up songs. It was a smashing success, so we’re bringing it back for another edition! While your fall sports are nearing the playoff push, it’s never too late to add songs to your pre-game rotation. This time, we took aim at a pop/electronic playlist, with a few random old-school jams mixed in along the way. Whether you’re running, jumping, or swinging, these songs need to be on your next playlist. Even better, we’ve made it easier by providing the Spotify tracks for you — so go load it up, save the playlist, and get working!
Kicking off the October playlist is Blink-182’s Cynical — a track off their triumphant return album, California. After, finally, moving on from lead singer Tom DeLonge, Blink-182 replaced him with Matt Skiba and he shows off his pipes on this song. Although it’s on the short side, it goes from 0 to 100 real quick, escalating into a pump-up song worthy of your playlist this fall.
A bit further down, you’ve got Tidal Wave by Taking Back Sunday, a surprising sound from the once-emo rockers. If you’ve never gotten into Taking Back Sunday before, don’t skip this track! It sounds like it was ripped directly from a commercial celebrating the MLB or NFL playoffs. Just imagine this song behind a montage of big home runs and stolen bases — that could be you next!
O-o-h Child was first released by The Five Stairsteps in 1970, but recently resurged as a part of Guardians of the Galaxy‘s soundtrack in 2014. While it’s doesn’t pop like the other tracks on the playlist, it’s a must-listen to before games as its soulful tune will put you in the right mental state.
Grouplove’s Cannonball comes off their brand new record and it won’t be long before it starts showing up on YouTube highlight reels across the country. As for the meaning, we’ll let Grouplove explain:
“It’s about stepping up. Life has moments where you can step up, and it’s sort of like: be a cannonball. Just make your mark. Do what you gotta do and to not just burn out.”
Will you step up? Finally, the playlist is capped off by Avicii‘s Broken Arrows — and, let’s be honest, you don’t need an introduction to this song as it probably decorates most of pre-game rituals already. If this song doesn’t get you in the mood to drop forty points on your next opponent then nothing will.
How’d we do? What’d we miss? Let us know your favorite pump-up song and we’ll include the best ones in our November edition!
